Our Lady of the Pillar School is a K - 8 Catholic elementary school located in West St. Louis County, on Lindbergh Boulevard, just north of Highway 40. We have an enrollment of approximately 200 students. We offer a full academic curriculum including an all-day Kindergarten program, Spanish classes (K-8), Music, Art, Computer, Learning Center (K-5), Algebra (8), and PE.
Liturgy is the most important part of our school life. Students attend Mass each week as a school community. Classes take turns planning and ministering these Liturgies. There are numerous opportunities for children to act as lectors, servers, liturgical dancers, choir members, and participants in gospel dramatizations, Seventh and eighth graders perform a Living Stations enactment for the school and parish. Sacramental preparation is part of the second grade religion program. Reconciliation is offered during Advent and Lent. Children also participate in special Advent and Lenten programs including the Stations of the Cross and Benediction.
In addition our students have an opportunity to participate in a variety of events, clubs, sports and activities throughout the year. We offer participation in CYC athletic programs through the parish, Cub Scouts, Chess Club, Newspaper, Bellarmine Speech, Safety Patrol. Children's Choir, Bell Choir, Altar Servers, Breakfast with Santa (8), class play (8). Our students participate in the Geography Bee, Monsanto/Post-Dispatch Greater St. Louis Science Fair, area Math Contests (Priory, Rosati-Kain, Dubourg, Missouri Math Teachers), Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee. Archdiocesan Music Festival, and various Art contests. Field trips include Jefferson City, Washington (MO), Zoo, Art Museum, Holocaust Museum, Powell Symphony Hall to mention just a few.
Connecting to the community is a special emphasis of our school. Second-graders have Prayer Partners in the parish as they prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Each class plans a fund-raising activity for the Missions. Eighth-graders help set-up, serve and entertain at a Christmas dinner for the homeless. Each class brings in donations for the St. Patrick's Center.
