A Note Regarding Charitable Giving at
Our Lady of the Pillar School
Our Mission Statement:
“Our Lady of the Pillar is a Catholic faith community working to
educate the whole child with emphasis on respecting the
uniqueness of each individual and on establishing
and living the gospel values.”
As a Catholic school, OLP has a responsibility to enrich our student’s spirits as well as their minds. We take seriously our commitment to instill within our children a sense of Christian community and responsibility toward others. Part of living the gospel values means we must learn to give of ourselves to help those less fortunate.
Our Lady of the Pillar parish and school supports several charities on a continuing basis. As we must teach our children what a blessing it is to give, we encourage you to allow your children hands-on participation in these efforts. For example, have your children make the sandwiches for St. Patrick’s, shop for a few baby items for Our Lady’s Inn or pick out a winter coat for a child less fortunate at Christmas time.
The Morning Star School in India provides Pillar children an opportunity to reach out to other children. It is has been a mission project greatly supported by our school for over 15 years. The funds we send help to purchase desks, uniforms, books and even meals for children less fortunate than ours.
Although a check is always welcome, do not feel compelled to support all events on the attached calendar. We do not assume participation in every event by every family. Families have many financial commitments and other charity obligations. Please prayerfully review this list and choose those with meaning for you and your children.
While we are making this effort to be responsive to the feedback from parents regarding “being nickel and dimed” throughout the school year, it is important for everyone to remember the true meaning of these collections. The Lord has richly blessed Our Lady of the Pillar and we are commanded by Him to share as we can.
