Grandparents’ DayGrandparents’ Day was a wonderful celebration that took place on October 24, 2005. The children of Our Lady of the Pillar School invited their grandparents or a special person for an extraordinary Mass and luncheon in the Parish Life Center. At 9:40, honored guests arrived and each child escorted their grandparents or special person over to church. The Mass began with the joyful singing of “All Creatures of our God and King” as the altar servers and Father Oscar processed down the aisle. The Gospel told how Jesus was in the Father and that God is present in Jesus, doing His works. During the homily, Father Oscar talked about what a positive influence our grandparents are on us. As is the tradition, students were invited up to the altar to read “Why I Love My Grandparents.” They spoke about how much their grandparents mean to them. The eighth graders then processed onto to the altar holding up letters spelling Grandparents, while a fifth grader read about the amazing attributes all grandparents possess. The children were invited to the front of church for a blessing song. The joyful Mass ended with the proclaiming of “Sing of the Lord’s Goodness”. After Mass, the grandparents and the children enjoyed a delicious lunch in the Parish Life Center. It was decorated for a royal welcome with purple table cloths and plants with photos of all the children dressed in royal attire. To go along with the royal theme, the students took their grandparents to the Kingdom of Reading Scholastic Book Fair by crossing a draw- bridge. Grandparents and students enjoyed looking at books. The Mass was a complete success and a great way for children and grandparents to share a unique time together. -- Panther Prints v9i1 |
