Catholic Schools' Week Begins

Traditionally, Catholic Schools’ Week has always been a very exciting week for everyone at OLP.  There are various activities planned for the children.   Father Tobin  began the week with a memorable Mass on January 29, 2006.  He called on us to be appreciative of our Catholic education and open our hearts to God even more during the week.  The children of Our Lady of the Pillar contributed greatly to make this celebration unforgettable. The front cover for the  program was designed by a fifth grader. The cover illustrated character, compassion, and values, the theme of this year’s Catholic Schools’ Week.  The children of the youth choir and bell choir, joined with the adult choir, and filled the church with joyful song. For the procession, colorful ribbon banners were carried up to the altar by Max Sommers and Ben Castro. Father Tobin gave a wonderful homily, explaining the importance of a Catholic education, and how it prepares us for the future. He stressed that it sets a firm foundation in faith and love as we continue to grow.   After Communion, Sister Therese presented  a framed Distinguished Graduate certificate to Christine Obermeier from the class of 1959.  This honor goes to a person who shares his or her Christian values, morals, and calling with their community.  After the celebration, everyone toured the school and enjoyed refreshments in the Parish Life Center.  The walls of the school were filled with the students’ vibrant artwork .  Science fair projects were displayed in the upper grades hallway.  The children and their parents enjoyed meeting the teachers and eating donuts and coffee in the Parish Life Center.  Overall, this celebration was a great start to a fun-filled Catholic Schools’ Week.
