One discovery was the genome of Haemophilius influezae is the first genome of a free living organism to be sequenced. In 1996 the first mamal to be successfully cloned was born. In 1997 Bill Clinton bars federal funding for any research on human cloning. In 1997 Carlisle and Bobbi McCaughey give birth to septuplets and this is the second known case where all seven babies lived. In 1998 Biologists report in the journal Science how they sequenced the genome of the bacterium that causes syphilis.
Computer Science
In 1995 the Java programming language is announced to the world and the first version was released in 1996. In 1996 IRCNet was founded. The first two working 2-qubit nuclear resonance computer is demonstrated at the University of California in 1998. The Melissa worm attacked the internet in 1999 ruining many computers.
Technology and Telecommunications
The first HDTV compatible front projection in the United States was introduced by Zenith in 1996. Also in 1996 a successful demonsration of magnetic refrigeration was demonstrated. The supersonic land speed record is set by a team form the United Kingdom in 1997. The very first Black Berry is released in 1999.
Medicine
In 1995 workers from the National Institutes of Health announce the success of chemical trials testing the treatment for sicle cell anaemia. The Food and Drug Administration approve daclizumab which is the first humanized antibody therapeutic. In 1998 researchers in Texas present their findings abou an enzyme that slows aging and death.
