In the 1950s decolonization was happening. In 1954 guerillas started the Algerian War of Independence. The Mau Mau began their terrorist attacks against the British in Kenya. This led to concentration camps in Kenya, the retreat of the British, and the election of former terrorist Kenyatta as leader of Kenya.
In Asia
The nations of the People's Republic of China and Indonesia began their history after their establishment in the late 1940s. By 1953 the three-year war between North Korea, supported by China, and South Korea, supported by the United States, had ended. After World War II the United States occupied Japan and assisted in its rebuilding.
