Movies influenced people what to wear, and what not to wear. When a popular movie star wore a particular thing, most people would copy the trend. Star's hairstyles were copied immediately. In four years, this is what the change in hairstyle looked like:

The economic climate influenced the fashion. The flapper attire that was popular in the twenties was replaced by a simple dress with a waist line and longer hem. Zippers became popular because they were less expensive than buttons, and closures that were previously used.

The men in the thirties wore wide and high waisted pants. A vest sweater was an alternative to the traditional three piece suit with the matching vest. Any well-dressed male would wear a hat. Most men began to discard their shirts because Clark Gable took off his shirt in a movie. Warm shirts in large plaids were popular for men.

Women wore hats and gloves for all social social occasions. During the thirties, hairstyles became more fuller. The bobbed hairdo with bangs became extremely popular just because stars wore their hair that way. A more glamorous evening wear was in style, such as, the cross-cut dress, the invention of nylon, beach fashions on health and beauty, classic chic, but all women really wanted is to feel glamorous. A more feminine style became popular. It replaced the flapper look from the twenties. Hemlines dropped dramatically to the ankle. Necklines were lowered for attention, often with fuffled collars. Fur was worn extensively (day and night), especially lamb and silver fox. Squared shoulders, and fuller skirts were in style.

Rounded toe heels were seen with wide, thick heels. Pumps and flat shoes were available. Ankle strap shoes with small heels, lace-up shoes, and shoes with buckels were worn.
Beaded and mesh bags were in style. Leather became extremely popular, especially gold leather evening sandals. Styles didn't change every season because money was scarce, and clothes had to last a long time.
