The arts dominated in the 1930s. Themes based on American culture and history were popular things to draw. Some artists were able to survive the hard times by painting murals on the lobby walls of government buildings, such as, Jackson Pollock, and Willem de Koooning.

 

 

The thirties decade saw the beginning of the American Gothic style. Artists that adopted this style include Thomas Hart Benton, Georgia O' Keffee with southwestern themes, Edward Hopper with realistic scenes from city life, etc.

 

 

The nation's most memorable skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building,

the Chrysler Building, and Rockefeller Center were completed throughout the thirties.
