Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque invented cubism, which permited painting to mirror splintered modern world views. Many American artists went to Europe to paint. Realism and Impressionism artists included Eakins, Prendergast, and a portraitist called Sargent.

New York established Guild of Arts and Crafts. The Exposition Universelle de 1900 was opened on April 15 and closed November 12 that same year. A militant prohibitionist named, Carry A. Nation made her first public appearance of smashing a bar. It was done at the Carey Hotel in Wichita, Kansas.
1901
In Colorado Springs, Colorado, Artus Van Briggle opened the Van Briggle Pottery. On May 1, in Buffalo, New York, the Pan American Exposition was opened and closed on October 1. It was visited by Charles Greene in August.
1902
On December 1 the first craftsman building opened.
1903
Van Briggle opened a pottery business. The Buffulo Pottery Company opened in Buffalo. The William Morris Society founded in Chicago.
1904
Constantin Brancusi walked from Bucharest to Paris, his first steps toward a one- man revolution of sculpture as radical as that of his hero, Rodin.
1906
Heintz Art Metal Shop was opened by Otto and Edwin Heintz.
1907
Arthur Wesley Dow painted "Rain in May."
1908
Dirk Van Erp opened the Copper Shop in Oakland.
1909
In 1909 F.T. Marinetti published the first Futurist Manifesto, which showed how much more than rhetoric it takes to define an artistic moment
